It is a Non Governmental Organisation created on February 21st, 1989 with a socio-economic character whose action is based on the voluntary work. It works for the interest of the consumer. The O.D.C was recognised as a public utility by the decree 318 dated February 8th, 1993. The O.D.C has, moreover, been an affiliated member of Consumer’s International since 1995 to become a full membership in 2004, and participates consequently to the different debates of the world consumerist movement.
Goals :
1. Assist the consumers, protect and defend their interests at any level and in every field;
2. Advise the consumers, inform them concerning their security and instilling in them the right management principles;
3. Represent the consumers at each level in front of the different instances;
4. Work in the way that national orientations take into account the interests of the consumer and its aspirations.
National Congresses:
Since its creation in 1989, the O.D.C held 4 national congresses, which are the supreme instances of elections from which emanats the national board, the managing body of the organisation.
- 1st National Congress (January 1992)
- 2nd National Congress (January 1994)
- 3rd National Congress (March 1997)
- 4th National Congress (September 2002)
The last congress dealing with the theme “the responsible consumer” scored a new stage in which the O.D.C is entitled to play a growing crucial role in the context of a liberal open economy. To this perspective, the O.D.C shall prepare the advent of a National Institute of Consumption.
