Tunisia’s Consumer Defense Organization (ODC) has appealed to citizens for adopting a smart consumption behaviour with the beginning of summer season; usually this time of the year witnesses higher rates of consumption.
ODC’s key concern and call aims at protecting the health environment and the citizens’ purchasing power, stating that it had multiplied contacts with concerned structures in order to secure immediate field intervention in case of non-respect of health rules and date of expiry of perishable foodstuffs.
In a communiqué released Tuesday16e June 2009, ODC records cases of non-observance of health rules in certain outlets particularly with respect to transportation, conservation and display of sensitive produce, such neglect may entail food poisoning among consumers.
The targeted outlets are those which are usually crowded at that time of the year such as commercial stores, restaurants, coffee-houses and cake shops. In this respect, ODC recommends full observance of health rules by personnel members and landlords, urging the latter to provide adequate conservation, display and sale equipments and materials.
On the other hand, the organization calls on consumers to back up the concerned authorities’ efforts by adopting a smart behavior for the common interest.
Besides, ODC focuses on the paramount necessity for further implanting the practice of transparency of trade dealings and respect of healthy rules of competition.
Focus is particularly laid on strict health guarantees as concerns fish mongering, animal foodstuffs, bottled water, ice-creams, sodas, these necessitating strict observance of refrigeration of perishable products.
Furthermore, the communiqué insists on the need for citizens to rationalize their daily behaviour as for energy and water consumption by avoiding wastage and eventually contributing to environment preservation.
